Foodie Friday #4: Mishkin's at Covent Garden

Thank you Essie Button for mentioning this Jewish Deli in one of her vlog. In her vlog, Essie excitedly said "I cannot get enough of its menu!!". I thought, "Wow, it's a pretty big statement for a cafe/restaurant!" I was intrigued. So my sister Cynthy (@beautyorbread) and I decided to check it out and went there for lunch.

On Google map, it was close enough to Covent Garden but off on some awkward side road. When we finally got there, Mishkin was round the corner from the Piazzia and exactly across the road from Theatre Royal.

This restaurant was so cute! Black and white checked tiles, exposed brick wall, booth seatings, there was skylight at the back of the cafe so the whole place felt so light and airy, quirky but cosy.

We had courgette flowers as starter to share. It was done in tempura style, so light and crispy, with garlic mayo.

Cynthy chose the half portion salt beef sandwich with slaw. And look! It was a stack of salt beef in a toasties.

I chose Macaroni Cheese with added salt beef and Coleman. I've never had Mac Cheese like this one before, the Coleman mustard was incorporated into the sauce! I cannot describe how tasty it was! Salt beef in every mouthful with the slight pungentness of the mustard! Such a simple but clever twist to the traditional recipe. It took the macaroni cheese to the next level.

I over-heard the table next to us that the chocolate bomb was their special dessert. But we were just too full and could not even attempt to share one between us. (but have made a mental note for next visit).

Miskin's do cocktails too! Beetroot Martini, Cucumber Martini... Well, cocktails at lunch is a bit much I think (making mental note again)

The restaurant can get very busy. During our lunch, most people came in with a reservation. So I would suggest to book in advance if you have 4 people or more. As for two people, if the table area is full, there is the bar area for a quirky lunch or dinner. Yes, this cafe do dinners as well.

What are you doing this weekend? If you are taking a stroll in Covent Garden, then you definitely have to check Mishkin's out!

"Are you serious?" I know what you are thinking. Wetherspoon pubs have revamped their menu and food quality, but the price has stayed low.

Budget Buy: MUA nail polish in Natural Days

When I was in Superdrug to buy the Tiffany colours (NYC nail polishes  - check out my blog post here ), as the offer was 3 for 2 across all nail polishes, I picked up a MUA polish as my freebie. I saw this pastel baby pink colour in Natural Days. The colour looks really cute in the bottle.

Estee Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum

Lately I have been obsessed with the Estee Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum . In the past I tried the Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution, it was alright but I didn’t find the result that amazing. So when I got a sample of for this Estee Lauder Enlighten Serum, I didn’t have high hopes … But how wrong I was! The sample bottle lasted me for two generous weeks and after that I rushed out to get the full size. Although it is called a serum, it is a light milky lotion texture, it is easily absorbed into skin and it feels moisturising. With the sample bottle, I used it every night after my cleansing routine. I can see visible results to my face after two weeks. My blemish marks are significantly lighter (my main concern) and the skin tone for the rest of my face is visibly more even.  Now I have the full size bottle (30ml, also available in 50ml size), I am going to follow the instructions to use it both day and night. Use it at night to reduce
